CCHRC members and sponsors provide vital, sustaining support for our mission to promote and advance healthy, durable, and sustainable shelter for cold climates. Donations help fuel many projects, including sustainable prototype houses in rural Alaska, renewable energy tests, and the production of educational videos, publications and multimedia. Your contribution to CCHRC makes change happen by providing valuable support to our research efforts.
Thermal Mass Study
Thermal mass is the ability of a material to absorb and store heat energy, which can be useful when it comes to cold climate housing. This project clarifies the role of thermal mass in housing and includes a literature review and energy modeling with IDA Indoor Climate and Energy (ICE) software. The goal of the project is to determine the effects of thermal mass on occupant comfort and annual heating load for a typical cold climate residence.
