Jack Hébert

Jack Hébert has been designing and building homes in Alaska
for over thirty years with the goal of creating high quality, well
designed, environmentally appropriate and energy efficient
buildings. His planned communities reflect this philosophy as well.
Jack has received numerous honors in recognition of this
commitment, including the first State of Alaska Governor's Award
for Excellence in Energy Efficient Design and the Energy Rated
Homes of Alaska President’s Award. He has twice been
honored as the Alaska State Homebuilder of the Year.
Jack is a very active member of the National Association of Homebuilders (NAHB). He has served in leadership roles on local, state and national levels, including a term as President of the Alaska State Home Building Association. He currently represents Alaska on NAHB’s National Executive Board.
Jack is owner of Hébert Homes, LLC, a corporation that builds homes and neighborhoods to the highest energy standards recognized. Jack was instrumental in founding the Cold Climate Housing Research Center. He acted as design team lead, project manager and superintendent on the construction of the CCHRC’s Research and Testing Facility. He is currently President and CEO of the Cold Climate Housing Research Center, which is committed to developing and implementing techniques and methods of building that promote safe, affordable, durable and energy efficient housing for cold climate regions.
John Davies

John Davies received a Ph.D. in geophysics from the University of Alaska Fairbanks in 1975. He served as the State Seismologist for the Alaska Division of Geological and Geophysical Surveys from 1981-1986 and was a principal in creating the Alaska Earthquake Information Center and the Alaska Volcano Observatory while serving as State Seismologist for the Geophysical Institute at the University of Alaska, Fairbanks from 1986-1992. John was an elected Representative to the State Legislature from 1992-2002 where he served on the Resources, Legislative Budget and Audit, and Finance Committees. Along the way, John designed, built, and resided in two energy efficient homes. John is responsible for overseeing current projects and developing and implementing a long-term strategy for projects taken on by CCHRC, including financial management and grant development.
Cole Sonafrank

Cole Sonafrank joined CCHRC after a 26 year career with the University of Alaska Fairbank's Geophysical Institute (GI). From 1995 to 2005 he managed the GI's Computer Resource Center providing a full range of Information Technology (IT) services to countless research projects in the GI and the International Arctic Research Center. From 1979 to 1995 he developed and managed the computing facilities for the Seismology and Volcanology research groups, the Alaska Earthquake Information Center and the Alaska Volcano Observatory. Cole's specialties were real-time data acquisition, automatic analysis and distributed network system development. Cole has a BA from UAF in Economics. He was elected to and served on the Fairbanks North Star Borough Assembly and has also served on the FNSB Planning Commission. His personal interests revolve around his wife and two grown children and their fledging "Elves of Ester" art studio. Cole's responsibilities within the CCHRC include research project, outreach and IT management.
Dave Misiuk

Dave moved to Alaska in 1991 to attend the University of Alaska Fairbanks and while completing his engineering degree, was employed by the State of Alaska Division of Forestry as a Wildland Firefighter. Dave received a B.S in Civil Engineering from UAF in 1996. Since that time, he has been directly involved with a number of notable engineering and building projects in the Fairbanks area and elsewhere in Alaska. Dave is a registered Professional Engineer in the State of Alaska and has worked in the building and construction community as a Structural Engineer at PDC, Inc., as Building Inspector for the City of Fairbanks and as President of Alaska Structural Engineering, Inc. Dave is a member of the Interior Alaska Builder’s Association, among other organizations, and is currently building an energy-efficient home in the hills of Fairbanks.
Nate Mohatt

Nate Mohatt moved to Fairbanks when he was 7 years old and has
spent most of his life here since then. He has always had a love
and passion for sustainable living and stewardship of the
environment; however, his educational and professional careers have
kept him wandering high and low from field to field. He completed a
Bachelor of Arts in German Literature, a Master of Fine Arts in
Poetry and is currently pursuing an interdisciplinary doctoral
degree in psychology and creative writing. He has worked in health
care management and community health planning, mental health
research, Alaskan politics, teaching from preschool through
college, the publishing industry, and as a bicycle salesman and
mechanic. At CCHRC he will fill the role of office administrator,
making sure that everything is running smoothly and clearing the
path for our important projects. He is a published poet with a
knack for numbers and organization. He is married to Jamie Mohatt
of Fairbanks, and together they have a 2 year old daughter,
Esmé.
Judy Dellinger

Judy Dellinger joined CCHRC after working as the Executive Director of the Greater Fairbanks Area Habitat for Humanity for three years. While at Habitat, Judy worked at growing the local affiliate as well as developing a ReStore facility that will sell donated building materials, furniture and appliances. Judy moved to Alaska from Oregon in 1989 with two kids in tow, married local carpenter, Steve Dellinger, and attended UAF completing her BA degree in Rural Development / Community Services and Organization in 1994. During that time Judy and Steve had two more children so after taking a 5 year child-rearing hiatus she re-joined the work force in 2000 as the Transportation Coordinator at Love In the Name of Christ. Judy became aware of the need for affordable and energy efficient housing while working at Love INC and Habitat for Humanity. Her job at CCHRC will focus mainly on grant writing and reporting. For fun, she performs with a local women’s barbershop group, the Fairbanks Frontier Chorus of Sweet Adelines. She enjoys camping, music, reading and gardening and attends North Pole Worship Center Church.
Rose Baumes

Rose Baumes has 24 years in the Contracting/Purchasing field. She moved to Alaska in 1988 while serving in the military at Eielson AFB. Upon retirement from the military in 1995, Rose and family moved back to Alaska and made it their home. Rose is the Grants/Contract Manager at CCHRC and is responsible for all grants and contracts.
Michael Musick

Michael Musick is a charter member of CCHRC and has served in an advisory role for CCHRC since its inception. His educational background includes BA degrees in English and Sociology, and a Master of Arts in Teaching. Mr. Musick has over 40 years experience in the construction industry in Interior Alaska. Since the mid 70's Mr. Musick has been a general contractor specializing in constructing energy efficient custom homes. Mike is the author of several manuals on building and has developed training courses for the Alaska Craftsman Home Program, the Alaska Housing Finance Corporation, the Cooperative Extension Service, and the Alaska Building Science Network. He has offered his services to the community by sitting on numerous boards and keeps up-to-date in energy efficient housing by attending professional development courses, seminars and workshops. Mr. Musick has received certification in ACHP ventilation design and installation and Blower Door testing. He was the Construction Superintendent for the University of Alaska President's Residence and currently specializes in energy efficient log homes. Mike recently received certification as a LEED Accredited Professional through the US Green Building Council. Mr. Musick is the Chair of the Interior Alaska CCHRC Research Advisory Committee, President of the Board of Directors of the Alaska Boreal Forest Council, and President of the Board of Directors of the Interior Alaska Building Association (IABA). Mr. Musick received the prestigious 2004 Builder of the Year Award from the IABA.
Marie Duncan

Marie joined the CCHRC team in December 2007 as the new Financial Administrator. She was born in California but has lived and traveled to such places as Seattle, Colorado, Michigan, Italy and Kentucky. She graduated in 1998 with a Bachelor of Business Administration with a major in Accounting from Mckendree College in Kentucky. Marie moved to Fairbanks Alaska in September 1998. She brings with her 10 years of Accounting experience and knowledge specializing in non-profit organizations. She is married to Joel and has 3 extremely playful dogs. Marie enjoys skijoring, camping, hiking and home renovation/remodeling.
Becky Morgan

Becky is from the mountains of Western North Carolina and has always enjoyed organizing things. She has a BA in History from the University of Montana, a Masters in Librarianship from the University of Washington and began a teacher certification program at the University of Guam. She has also worked in California & Montana & is new to Alaska. Becky will be managing our Library and believes that there have been lots of changes in technology but the goal of libraries hasn’t changed: to help people find the information important to them.

Danielle Jamieson grew up in Fairbanks, Alaska and then moved to Portland, Oregon where she received here BA in psychology from Lewis & Clark College. She always had a passion for architecture, history, and design, so decided to continue her education in a field that would incorporate those subjects. In 2005 she entered the University of Kentucky’s Masters Program in Historic Preservation of Architecture. After graduating in 2007 she returned to Fairbanks and began work at CCHRC. She has a strong interest in sustainable community design and green architecture. She is enthusiastic about being part of a group that is working to provide quality, affordable, energy efficient, sustainable, housing and infrastructure.

Kristen Thomas
Information Technology Specialist

Kristen was born in Alaska but spent the past six years living
in Michigan before moving back to join the CCHRC staff in October
2007. While in Michigan, Kristen was a Certified Massage Therapist
and Land Surveyor before discovering the world of Information
Technology and developing a passion for working on computers.
Before moving back to Alaska, Kristen worked as an Application
Programmer/Analyst for the University of Michigan Medical Center
Information Technology Department. In her spare time Kristen is
working on finishing her BS in Technology Management from Eastern
Michigan University. Her personal interests include home
renovation, green building, and, of course, computer
technology.
Ryan Colgan

Ryan Colgan was born and raised in Fairbanks, Alaska where he
studied political science and economics at the University of Alaska
Fairbanks. He worked for six years as staff in the Alaska State
Legislature during which time he primarily focused on energy and
natural resource issues. He has also worked as the Executive
Administrator of the Alaska Gasline Port Authority, and the Biomass
Energy Project Liaison for the Fairbanks North Star
Borough.
Ty Keltner

Ty Keltner grew up in Fairbanks and has spent over 26 years in the state of Alaska. He attended the University of Alaska Fairbanks where he served as general manager of KSUA radio. Ty received his BA in Journalism in 2002 and went to work as a reporter and anchor for the local NBC affiliate. Through his work, Ty gained an interest in alternative energy, sustainability and new technology. As a result, he returned to UAF to study business. Ty has since finished his MBA and is excited to work in a field with others who share his dream of making the world a better place.

Aaron Cooke

Aaron Cooke was born in Fairbanks and raised in Anchorage, Alaska. He is currently a graduate student at the University of Cincinnati, where he is completing a Masters Degree in Architecture. Aaron is working at CCHRC doing thesis research and design that focuses on northern-specific adaptations to building. Aaron’s internship at the CCHRC is the final capstone to a thorough investigation of circumpolar design: he has previously worked and studied architecture and community planning in Denmark, Siberia, and the Russian Far East. He is a lifelong mountaineer, snowboarder and traveler.
Marisa Potter

Marisa Potter was born and raised in Fairbanks, AK, and joined the CCHRC staff in September 2007. She is currently a freshman at the University of Alaska Fairbanks, and will soon be starting her Sophomore year next fall. She is working towards her goal of becoming an engineer and recently changed her major to mechanical engineering. Her work here at CCHRC will help to boost her future career and clarify her goals. She is excited to be learning about green building and sustainable energy, and hopes to involve students in renewable energy. Her personal interests include snowboarding, snow machining, photography, gymnastics, school, and traveling.
Nathan Wiltse
Building Systems Economist and Data Analyst

In December of 2007, Nathan Wiltse received his M.Sc. in Mineral Economics from UAF, where he worked closely with the Mining & Geological Engineering Department and the Economics Department. He has presented at the Alaska Mining Association Biennial Conference a number of times on such topics as, Assessing Risk in Achieving an Acceptable Rate of Return, and a Feasibility Model of a Rock Quarry. He worked on USARAK's pre-feasibility study for an All-Weather Crossing for the Tanana R. He graduated from St. Olaf College in Northfield Minnesota in 2000 with a B.A. in Economics. He minored in Computer Science and Management. While at St. Olaf he spent a year abroad attending the University of Ottawa in Canada. He was born and raised in Fairbanks, Alaska and attended West Valley High School.
