Philip was raised in Juneau, Alaska. According to family lore, his first word was "nails." A summer construction job after high school evolved into a career and 20 years later he's still building. Philip has built houses, boats, theater sets, and remote field camps. His work has taken him from Utiagvik (Barrow) to the South Pole. He has operated Fitzgerald Woodworking, a small design-build company, since 2000. Philip is fascinated by the challenges involved in creating resource efficient, durable and culturally relevant buildings.
