12/26/07 Hybrid Micro Energy Project Featured in the Fairbanks Daily News Miner Alaska's shortest day, December 21, 2007, marked the official starting date of the solar panel portion of our Hybrid Micro Energy Project. Beginning on the twenty-first, CCHRC is now recording the data from the solar panels and tracking our energy intake. Featured locally in the Fairbanks Daily News Miner, the story has been published in several other cities and states across the country. Click here for the full article.
12/26/07 In partnership with the Cold Climate Housing Research Center in Fairbanks, Wisdom & Associates, Inc. announces that they will begin presenting the research center’s project findings to the building industry this winter. Beginning in February Wisdom & Associates, Inc. will offer new classes in their education schedule that are based on completed research findings from the CCHRC. This partnership will bring educational programs to the industry using the latest technology and research that improves the durability, health, and affordability of shelter for people living in circumpolar regions around the globe. Wisdom & Associates, Inc. looks forward to this partnership of presenting CCHRC’s research findings to the public and raising the standard of housing in Alaska.

in Fairbanks this month and CCHRC staff gave presentations on green
building in Alaska. NACo represents county governments in
the United States. Founded in 1935, NACo provides essential
services to the nation’s 3,066 counties. NACo advances issues
with a unified voice before the federal government, improves the
public's understanding of county government, assists counties in
finding and sharing innovative solutions through education and
research, and provides value-added services to save counties and
taxpayers money.

3/29/07 Cold-Weather Concrete Demonstration Project: A report on the Cold-Pour Concrete Monitoring prepared by Michael Lilly of GW Scientific is available with recorded temperatures within the two slabs of curing concrete. Also a link to Cold Weather Concrete, by the Fairbanks Daily News-Miner
3/28/07 Cold-Weather Concrete Demonstration Project: SpringBoard, a program of the Juneau Economic Development Council, teamed up with the Army Cold Regions Research and Engineering Laboratory (CRREL) to demonstrate a technique for combining commercially available admixtures to concrete batches so that pours can be made below freezing temperatures at the CCHRC Research and Testing Facility this morning. The official temperature was -8 degrees F at time of pour. A slide presentation was made before the pour & is available in pdf format. Cold Weather Concreting. The main office has a conventional roof with blown insulation in the attic space Two types of insulation are being compared for both performance comparison and to help illustrate how the roof insulation works over the wide range of temperature conditions common to the Interior (+90F to -60F).
