The Directors on the Cold Climate Housing Research Center Board serve for a three year term. Three seats come up for election each year. A nominations committee is formed in July and elections are held in conjunction with the Alaska State Home Builders Association fall annual meeting.

Clai Porter is the President of NCP Design/Build Ltd, Anchorage, Alaska. Mr. Porter has 30 years of architectural design and construction experience in Alaska, and has constructed over 1200 single-family residences and 2800 remodeling projects at both urban and rural sites. He is a registered architect, expert witness, and AAA arbitrator, and is consulted on code review, building inspection, and quality control for large commercial projects. Mr. Porter is also principle of NCP Architects and Planners. He has won numerous awards, including Alaska State Builder of the Year twice, and NAHB Remodeler of the Year. He is a NAHB Senior Life Director, PAC Trustee, Remodelors Council Trustee, and Resolutions Committee member and also serves on the Alaska Housing Finance Corporation Board. Mr. Porter is a founding organizer of CCHRC and currently serves as the Chairman of the Board of Directors of CCHRC.

Richard Green joined the CCHRC board in 2005. Through his employment with Spenard Builders Supply, Richard is a charter member of CCHRC and has lately assisted in the planning and construction of the Cold Climate Building & Infrastructure Research & Testing Facility (RTF). He is currently a board member and has served as Vice President and Treasurer of ICC (ICBO) and has also served on the board for the Interior Alaska Building Association (IABA) and been a member of IABA since its inception. Richard was president, building committee chairman and superintendent for the first five Fairbanks chapter Habitat for Humanity homes which were all 5-star plus & included a Health House. He was also a member of the Comprehensive Plan Advisory Committee for the Fairbanks North Star Borough and is an active member of the Alaska Bar Association's fee arbitration committee.

Charles Renfro has served on the CCHRC Board of Directors since January 2001. Mr. Renfro has been in part of the construction industry for 35 years since moving to Alaska after completing college coursework in Construction Technology and pre engineering courses. His work background includes General and Mechanical Contracting, business and sales management, technical writing, and training. Chuck has been involved with the Alaska Craftsman Home Program, writing manuals and instructing, since 1988 and currently serves on their Board of Directors. Mr. Renfro is a certified ICBO Inspector and Energy Rater and currently does building inspection, energy rating, and consulting through Energy Efficiency Associates in Eagle River, Alaska.

Kelley Roth, owner of PKBuilders, has 25+ years of experience in the Construction Industry, including designing and building homes in Southeast Alaska. Kelley is a Charter Member of the Ketchikan Southern Southeast Alaska BIA and has served on the SEABIA Board for over 12 years, two years as President. He has served as a director on both the Alaska State Home Building Association (ASHBA) and on the National Association of Homebuilders from Charter in 1995 through present. Kelley has built structures in Wyoming as well as throughout Southeast Alaska and the Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta. Over the years, Kelley has found a niche in light commercial and remote residential construction, where he has done everything from putting in docks to rain catchment systems to generator/inverter systems. Kelley is very interested in the development of the Green Build Guidelines in Alaska. Kelley has lived in Alaska for 35 years and was elected to the CCHRC board in October 2007.

Dave Miller, President of Landmark, Inc., has been building custom homes in Alaska since 1980 and now has two sons who work with him in the building business. Landmark, Inc. has built many of Interior Alaska’ most distinctive residences. Dave is a Rotary Club member and serves on the Interior Alaska Building Association board of directors. He considers it his responsibility to learn as much as possible about the most current and significant building systems and methods available. Mr. Miller was elected to the CCHRC board in October 2007.

Alan Wilson worked in the building industry in Northern California before settling in Juneau in 1993. In the years since, besides working as a builder, he has served as the Legislative Affairs Chair and President of the Alaska State Home Building Association (ASHBA) and also as President of the Southeast Alaska Building Industry Association. In 2005-2006 he successfully lobbied for the passage of HB 81 before the Alaska Legislature on behalf of ASHBA. He is currently President of Alaska Renovators, a remodeling company, and has been appointed to the Affordable Housing Commission by the Juneau Assembly. Alan is a founding member of CCHRC and was elected to the board of directors in October 2007

Mark LaLiberte has added his knowledge and experience to the CCHRC Board of Directors since November 2000. Mr. LaLiberte is the President of Building Knowledge Training Services LLC in Minneapolis, Minnesota, a national consultation, training and education group. Mr. LaLiberte teaches, consults, and speaks to over 7,000 builders, architects and consumers each year through numerous national conferences put on by industry and government. He has 20 plus years in the industry and is focused on energy efficient construction practices and systems approach building. Mr. LaLiberte has been a team advisor for the Department of Energy's Building America Program, a board member and past president for the Energy and Environmental Building Association, and continues to work with the Xcel Energy's Premier Homes Program. He is known internationally in his field and has participated on and off camera for various television and video productions concerning residential construction.

Jess Dilts is the director of housing for the Hydaburg Cooperative Association. As manager of Tribal NAHASDA for Hydaburg, Jess focuses primarily on rehabilitation work of existing homes increasing the energy efficiency while extending the life of the house. Under Jess’ direction, Hydaburg Cooperative Association, partnering with Building Science Corporation has been instrumental in developing climate-specific, energy efficient housing prototypes for the Habitat Congress Building America program. This work has culminated as the Building America design of the Basic Very Cold Climate House. Jess’ work is pioneering both new and retrofit housing resulting in buildings using 30 to 50 percent less energy, reducing construction time and waste by as much as 50 percent while improving builder productivity. Jess was appointed to the CCHRC board to fill the seat vacated by Wendy Knight and will be representing rural Alaska.

Bill is a Senior Researcher with the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) where his work focuses on promoting the development of innovative building technologies, green building practices and sustainable development with a focus on projects in the Canadian far north With training in architecture, construction and planning, Bill has worked in the building industry for over 25 years. Throughout his career, Bill has been a strong promoter of environmental and cultural sustainability bringing these values to his work in design, construction, building science, and environmental planning projects. As a builder and consultant, Bill operated a business specializing in timber frame construction, passive solar and energy efficient buildings, and building research. As an architect, in addition to his work domestically in the housing industry, he has worked extensively on international development projects in Tibet, China, India and Thailand. Bill has a Bachelor Degree in Environment and Resource Studies from the University of Waterloo, a Masters Degree in Architecture from the University of Calgary, and is a licensed carpenter. Bill is a past member of the Board of Directors of the Canada Green Building Council (CaGBC), is the founder and past chair of the CaGBC Residential Committee, and is member of the LEED for Homes Committee of the U.S. Green Building Council.

Brent LeValley brought Denali State Bank in as a charter member when CCHRC first incorporated. He has been a construction and commercial lender since 1972 with a majority of those years spent in Interior Alaska. Brent's education includes a Bachelor Of Science Degree in Labor Relations and Economics and continuing education including seminars and workshops available through the Alaska Building Science Network (ABSN) and the Interior Alaska Building Association (IABA). Brent is a past board member of the Interior Alaska Building Association and was twice named Associate of the Year. Brent is committed to the construction of healthy, cost effective, energy efficient new buildings and believes that the Cold Climate Housing Research Center (CCHRC) will facilitate development of products and practices that will perform well in extreme weather conditions.

Jess Hall has been a home builder for 27 years. Hall Quality Homes (HQH) has constructed more than 800 homes in the Palmer-Wasilla area in the past ten years. Over the years, Jess has specialized in homes for the first time buyer, the first time move-up and low income housing. Jess built his first "Super Insulated" home as a demonstration project in 1985 and is today, an acknowledged leader in energy efficient construction. He has shared his knowledge and experience with builders throughout the state and was an instructor with the Alaska Craftsman Home program. The Alaska State Home Builders Association selected Jess as the Builder of the Year in 1986, 1987 and 1995. HQH has also received the Building Innovation in Home Ownership Award, presented by the Department of Housing and Urban Development and the prestigious Energy Value Housing Award from the NAHB Research Center. Jess served as president of the Mat-Su Valley and State of Alaska Home Builders Associations. He is currently a National Vice President for the National Association of Home Builders.

Michael Buller

Michael Buller is the Deputy Executive Director of the Alaska Housing Finance Corporation. Mr. Buller joined the Corporation in June of 1995 and is responsible for administrative services, personnel, audit, budget, and finance and accounting. He previously worked for the North Slope Borough from 1987 through 1993 as Budget Manager and Deputy Director of Administration and Finance of the Department of Administration and Finance. From August 1993 through June 1995, Mr. Buller was employed as Assistant City Manager for the City of Unalaska. Mr. Buller holds a master's degree in business administration from Gonzaga University.
