Product Testing
CCHRC is developing a unique environmental lab that focuses exclusively on cold climate product testing and development. At our Research and Testing Facility (RTF) plans are underway to develop and implement a cold-weather product testing lab and a "Certified Alaska Tough" certification for products that are well suited for use in our extreme climate. In addition, the RTF building itself is intended to be used to test and research the performance of products and equipment in actual use under year-round Alaskan conditions.
CCHRC has filed an application for the phrase "Certified Alaska Tough" along with a polar bear drawing to be a trademarked logo. Products that meet our certification protocol will be awarded this designation for use in marketing the product.

Testing Protocols
- Will not duplicate UL or other industry standard testing, unless it is desired to extend the standard test regime to more extreme conditions (temperature, moisture, wind, etc.)
- As much as is feasible will use standard testing methodology
- Will be designed to highlight the products performance in Alaskan climatic conditions
- Will be standardized by product category
- Will be developed with industry input through CCHRC’s Industry Advisory Council
- May involve in situ testing, or laboratory testing or both
- Will provide a scientific, third-party evaluation of the performance of the product under the specified conditions
